New Budget Would Cut Two School Days
BOWLING GREEN (WEKU) - Members of the Kentucky Board of Education are bothered by the budget approved by House lawmakers. The budget bill eliminates two classroom days from public schools as a cost-saving measure. Board Chairman Joe Brothers wrote a letter to a General Assembly saying lawmakers are threatening Kentucky's application for the Race to the Top application.
Kentucky is one of 16 finalists for millions of dollars in federal grants to support struggling schools. Brothers says every state has budget woes similar to Kentucky, yet none of the other finalists are shortening their school calendars.
