On Thursday, January 9, at 7 pm, Film Streams at the Ruth Sokolof Theater will host filmmaker, “This American Life” contributor, and FOUND Magazine editor Davy Rothbart for a special screening of his documentary MEDORA. A Q&A session with Rothbart will follow the screening. Filmed over a year, MEDORA is an underdog story from the heart of basketball country and a record of Midwestern decay. While the Medora (Indiana) High School basketball team struggles to win even a single game, their off-court challenges include family strife, run-ins with the law, academic failures, and the knowledge that little opportunity awaits them in their small, blighted town. Natives of Ann Arbor, Mich., Rothbart and co-director Andrew Cohn have created an empathic portrait of not only the young athletes, but also a troubled region and an increasingly rare way of life.Tickets for all regular screenings at Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater are $9 general, $7 for students, seniors, teachers, military and those arriving by bicycle, and $4.50 for Film Streams Members. Tickets are available at the box office inside Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater or online at www.filmstreams.org.
