Are you familiar with electric bicycles? Have you ever ridden one? The Sierra Club is offering the chance to both learn more about electric bicycles, and to try out riding one.
From 6-7 p.m., Trek Bicycle Store will have an eBike available in the parking lot on the north side of the church. If you’d like to try out an e-bike, this is your chance!
The program at 7 p.m. features Bill Moore, who believes that in our increasingly urbanized world, the automobile, as we know it, is become an anachronism. Bill notes that the lauded former mayor of Curitiba, Jaime Lerner, who created the concept of bus rapid transit, now likens the private automobile to cigarettes: an unhealthy indulgence that will be less and less tolerated by the public.
Current research shows that young people today are driving less then previous generations, and they view driving, and car ownership, much differently. In 2011, the percentage of young people with a driver’s license dipped to a new low; and while they are driving less, they are more likely to bike or use another transportation alternative.
Bill sees electric-assist bicycles as the sustainable wave of the future. Bill will focus on the role, now and in the future, of this exciting new form of personal mobility. Bill Moore is the publisher of EV World, and the founder of ePedaler.
Please join the Sierra Club for an interesting evening as we look at e-bikes as the new transportation alternative.
