On Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m., Film Streams in collaboration with KANEKO will present a special screening of the documentary THE OTHER HALF OF TOMORROW, a series of seven vignettes that introduces us to Pakistan’s complex culture. Immediately following the film will be a discussion with Sadia Shepard, one of the directors of the film.THE OTHER HALF OF TOMORROW is a portrait of contemporary Pakistan as seen through the perspectives of Pakistani women working to change their country. The film introduces us to the disparate contexts that make up a complex culture—from a women’s rights’ workshop in a village in rural Punjab, to an underground dance academy in Karachi, to the playing fields of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team. Intertwining the religious, economic, social, and political issues that are fracturing Pakistani society, the film explores the richness and internal plurality within Pakistan and the urgent need for better understanding of its conflicts. The film is produced, directed, and photographed by the mother-daughter-son-in-law team of Pakistani-American visual artist and author Samina Quraeshi, filmmaker and author Sadia Shepard and cinematographer Andreas Burgess. Tickets for the screening and discussion are $9 general, $7 for seniors, students, teachers, military, and those arriving by bicycle, and $4.50 for Film Streams Members. Members of KANEKO may enjoy a discounted admission of $7. If purchasing tickets online, choose the $7 ticket code “Partner.” Please present your KANEKO membership ID at the box office. Advance tickets can be purchased at filmstreams.org or at the box office inside Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater. For more information, visit kaneko.org.
