Omaha Performing Arts Presents Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Holland Performing Arts Center. This performance is part of Omaha Performing Arts’ 2012/2013 Season. Tickets for Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY start at $30 each. Distant World tickets can be purchased online at TicketOmaha.com, by phone at 402.345.0606, or at the Ticket Omaha office in the Holland Performing Arts Center, 13th and Douglas streets. Distant Worlds’ concerts offer a unique multimedia experience as they use HD video—direct from FINAL FANTASY game developers SQUARE ENIX—which is projected onto giant screens and synced to music from FINAL FANTASY. Concerts also attract an extraordinarily loyal fan base. Concerts are performed by a symphony orchestra, choir and renowned vocal and instrumental soloists, under the direction of acclaimed conductor Arnie Roth. In Omaha, the University of Nebraska/Omaha Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Matthew C. Harden, will perform. Soloists are Shelby VanNordstrand, soprano; Jack Cotterell, tenor; and Kirk Vaughn-Robinson, baritone. They will perform the work Opera Maria and Draco (from Final Fantasy VI). The first FINAL FANTASY concert was held in 2002 in Japan. After its success, an additional group of cities were added to the Japanese tour. In 2004, under the musical direction of Arnie Roth, the concert tour Dear Friends: music from FINAL FANTASY was the first concert production that featured the music of FINAL FANTASY outside Japan. The world tour of Distant Worlds, presented by AWR Music Productions, LLC, was launched in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the video game FINAL FANTASY, featuring Uematsu’s music. The show has continued with additional video, music and guest soloists. Distant Worlds began touring worldwide in 2007 and has regularly performed in North America. In addition to the worldwide concert tour, there have been two acclaimed CD releases and a live concert DVD from Japan. Uematsu is one of the most celebrated composers and a major contributor to the increasing appreciation and awareness of video game music. His song, “Eyes On Me,” featuring Hong Kong pop star Fay Wong, sold a record number of copies. It also won “Song of the Year (Western Music)” at the 14th Annual Japan Gold Disc Awards in 1999, the first time in history that music from a video game attained this illustrious honor. Uematsu also was named one of the Innovators in Time Magazine’s “Time 100: The Next Wave Music” feature. Portions of a previous concert are available for viewing at TicketOmaha.com. This is an exciting example of Distant Worlds which will be staged in Omaha Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
