(2008-05-04)
(ketr) -

As one major hospital expansion finishes west of Commerce, another one starts east of Commerce Tuesday.

Groundbreaking of the 36 million dollar expansion at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs is Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 behind the emergency department. There will be a multi-story bed tower of private rooms, current rooms will be turned into private rooms, there will be a new hospital entrance, the E-R will be completely redone, and there will be a new heating and air conditioning system. Completion is scheduled for November of next year.

Meantime, ribbon-cutting of the 24 million dollar expansion at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville has been set for May 22nd. That project included a new cancer ward, new intensive care, telemetry, and medical units, a larger kitchen, three additional elevators, and 210 new parking spaces.
