Local election finals for Tuesday, Nov. 3
(2009-11-03)
(ketr) - Local elections throughout Northeast Texas showed mixed results regarding area alcohol sales, bond items and a possible city incorporation.

All Hunt County local items failed Tuesday night.

Residents of Quinlan and Wolfe City by slim margins voted against the sale of beer and wine at off-premise locations. The second item also failed in both cities, which would have allowed residents to purchase alcoholic beverages at licensed establishments without having to become a member of a private club.

78 percent of voters chose against the incorporation of the community of Cash, while 22 percent voted in favor of the item.

Residents in Paris and Sulphur Bluff both voted in favor of a tax rollback election.

A major bond item for the Bonham ISD failed Tuesday as 70 percent of residents voted against the measure. The $40 million package was to go toward a number of campus improvements.

57 percent of Fate citizens voted against a measure that would have allowed for the sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed beverages.

Three items regarding alcohol sales also all failed in Canton. On average, residents were 42 percent for and 58 percent against each measure.

"The legal sale of beer and wine for off premise consumption only" passed by a narrow margin in Farmersville. Citizens voted in favor of the item by a 55 to 45 percent tally.

The Wylie ISD was able to get only one of three proposed propositions passed Tuesday. The approved measure: a $25 million issuance in bonds for renovations to five of the district's school buildings and construction of Achieve Academy. It passed earning 52 percent of the vote. Propositions 1 and 2 failed with 56 and 58 percent voting against, respectively.
