Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Texas A&M University-Commerce and the City of Commerce have partnered to bring a new “Vintage” mural to Commerce, highlighting the city’s and iconic brand’s longstanding relationship and heritage. Located at 1123 Main Street, the mural is the first of three to be painted as part of a downtown revitalization effort in Commerce.
With wall space donated by Kenneth Parker serving as the “canvas,” A&M-Commerce art students enrolled in a summer mural painting class began work on the mural June 2, 2014. The mural includes an early Dr Pepper slogan, “The King of Beverages,” a vintage bottle bursting with “Vim, Vigor & Vitality,” and a majestic lion, which is also the A&M-Commerce mascot. The mural also features an adapted logo of the City of Commerce which includes a Bois D’arc tree and a logo from A&M-Commerce.
While all of the students participating in the course excelled, Dr Pepper Snapple Group will be awarding a scholarship to one of these students involved with the project at the dedication.
