State Fair Fried Food Finalists Named DALLAS, TX (KERA) - We're headed into Labor Day Weekend, and that means the State Fair of Texas is not far behind. This weekend, Fair officials will crown the new champion of exotic fried food.

This year the finalists are Chicken Fried Bacon served with a side of ranch or honey mustard sauce, Fried Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Fried Banana Split, Texas Fried Jelly Bellys, Deep Fried Smores, Fire and Ice, a deep-fried pineapple ring topped with banana flavored whipped cream frozen in liquid nitrogen, Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Waffle Balls and Fried Chocolate Truffles. Sue Gooding with the State Fair says this is the fourth year for the Big Tex Choice Awards, and each year gets more deliciously outrageous.

Gooding: Creativity and uniqueness has been there from the very beginning. But you know, we really need to stretch the imagination each year. And our vendors, they can definitely fulfill that task.
