Toyota Recall Repairs Start Soon
(2010-02-02)
(KERA) -

Repairs on recalled Toyotas could begin in North Texas by this weekend. Toyota says the parts needed to correct "sticky" accelerators will be at the dealerships by the end of the week.

In the meantime, Dan Ronan with Triple-A Texas, says it's a good idea for Toyota drivers to know what to do just in case.

He says keep your eyes on the road; take your foot off accelerator, and put the car in neutral to disengage the engine and transmission.

Ronan: So, now the car's in neutral, now begin to brake. And don't turn the engine off because if you turn the engine off, you end up killing the power steering and the braking, which makes it difficult to steer and very hard to brake.

Ronan says slow down safely, pull off the road, and call for help.

More than two million Toyotas in the U.S. need the gas pedal fix.
