North Texas Mayors Off To Super Bowl 44
(2010-02-04)
(KERA) -

Dozens of Dallas-Fort Worth city officials are headed to South Florida today, and Super Bowl 44. But as KERA's BJ Austin reports, one North Texas Mayor says they're not going to party.

Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert says the trip to Miami is all about getting ready for next year, and Super Bowl 45 in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Mayor Leppert says they'll be taking notes at various sessions on transportation and security issues, as well as "fundraising". The Super Bowl 45 committee expects it'll take 30 million dollars to host the big game next year in North Texas. Mayor Leppert says it's got to be a spectacular Texas-sized event.

Leppert: I think as excited everybody is for this first one, and we should be, there's really a motive that goes beyond that. And that is to think of ourselves as having this come back every couple of years. So hopefully, in a five year time frame we'll see another Super Bowl. And that's why it's so important to raise the money to do it right the first time.

Miami has hosted 10 Super Bowls, the most of any location. Officials in South Florida say the regional economic impact of this year's "big game" could be as high as 400 million dollars.
