Officer, Passenger Wounded on AMTRAK Train, Shooter Dead
DALLAS, TX
(KERA) -
In Dallas, an undercover narcotics officer and AMTRAK train passenger survived their wounds from a gunman onboard. The shooter is dead after officers killed him. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more on the bizarre incident at Union Station.
Passenger Kevin James says he was the first to board the Texas Eagle to Chicago at its Dallas stop, about 3:30 Monday afternoon. He says some undercover police officers followed behind, flashed their badges, and told him to stay in his seat. Then, James says, an argument seemed to break out just one seat in front.
James: I couldn't hear words. But police were wanting some identification. Wanting to search him. And at this time he had pulled out the gun and started firing randomly and then the police pulled their guns and returned fire.
James says he dove for the floor.
James: When I got up, where the back of my head was, there was a bullet going right through the seat, so I guess I ducked at the right time.

Tashena Brownlee was 4 seats away, saw the man shoot the police and the police shoot him. Brownlee says she grew up on Chicago's tough south side, but never saw anything like this.
Brownlee: All I know it it's not normal. I was in shock, especially because I was on my way down to the bathroom, I have my little sister, that's my youngest sister, I've been with her my whole life taking care of her. Because my mother and father weren't there for us. So with her up there right there by it. I'm trying to make sure everything is ok with her. I don't want any stray bullets for somebody else's name going towards her. It's like, to be that close to it? It's not a good feeling.
Police say the plainclothes officer was wounded in the hand and a passenger was shot, but not seriously. Dallas Police and AMTRAK say they're investigating.
