Dallas to Turn Lights out for "Earth Hour"
DALLAS, TX
(KERA) -
Dallas is joining 800 cities in 79 countries for "Earth Hour" this year. On March 28th, these cities will turn off the lights for one hour. Organizer of the event, the World Wildlife Fund, says the idea is to make a global statement about climate change and the commitment to solutions.
Mayor Tom Leppert is calling on Dallas to get on board.
Leppert: This event compliments the work that we've been doing with our Green Dallas initiatives. And it's a symbolic way to make a statement about Dallas' commitment to the environment.
The Mayor is urging downtown building owners to participate. He says, "you don't want to have your building be the one that is shining as an energy consumer."
The lights go off for an hour at 8:30pm, Saturday, March 28th.
