UMKC Dental School Gets $2 Million for Training KANSAS CITY, MO (kcur) - Missouri is using 40 million stimulus dollars to expand health care training programs. The funding kicks in this semester and will train some 500 students for high demand health care jobs.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon told those at UMKC's dental school yesterday although hone in five Missouri workers are currently employed in the health care sector, the state is still experiencing shortages.

Nixon: "The bottom line is expanding these health care professions to provide Missourians to treat Missourians so we can meet the unmet needs is vital."

Students will not be required to work in Missouri once they've completed their training, but Nixon says he believes most will choose to stay in the state. UMKC's dental school is getting about 2 million dollars to train an additional 17 dentists.

Funding for health care coverage on KCUR has been provided by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
