Minuteman Project Opens Chapters in Missouri
(2006-09-03)
Retired police officer Ed Hayes, leader of the new Kansas Minuteman chapter.
(kcur) - Many observers say Congress is unlikely to come up with any kind of immigration reform legislation before the November elections. But people who feel strongly about the issue are still gearing up to make their voices heard over the next few months. Immigrants' rights rallies were planned in cities around the country over the labor day weekend, though there were no plans yet for this area. But a California-based citizen border patrol group has just opened chapters in both Missouri and Kansas.

The Minuteman Civilian Defense Corps is expanding its reach throughout the country, reflecting the increase in illegal immigration throughout the United States. On Tuesday, KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross went to an information session about the new Missouri chapter at a Comfort Suites Inn in Independence.
