(kcur) - Earlier this month, the Johnson County Parks Board voted to bring in sharpshooters and bow hunters, to help solve the problem of too many deer in Shawnee Mission Park. At the time, some residents raised concerns about a rising tick population as a result of the deer increase.

To find out more about ticks and tick-borne diseases, KCUR's Elana Gordon recently caught up with Dr. Himal Bajracharya, an infectious disease doctor at KU Medical Center. Dr. Bajracharya, who's originally from Nepal, says the issue of ticks is one that now hits pretty close to home.

Funding for health care coverage on KCUR has been provided by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
