Dress Codes at the Power and Light District

(kcur) - The new Power and Light District is up and running - more than a dozen new bars and restaurants in the heart of downtown, and people are wondering what it's going to be like . . . the Plaza? Westport? 18th and Vine? Or Legends?

One way the management at the district is trying to establish a tone for the zone is with a dress code. Now, it's pretty typical for clubs or nice restaurants to have rules - like no sneakers, jeans or requiring jackets for men. But it's a little more unusual to have a dress code for casual bars. The Power and Light district also decided to use a dress code for the covered courtyard. Spokesman Jon Stephens says it will only apply during concerts or events when access is restricted to people over 21, and the area will function as an open-air club.

KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross spoke to Stephens, activist Alonzo Washington and patrons checking out the Power and Light District for the first time.
