Three years ago, Kansas City drummer and President of the Elder Statesmen of Kansas City Jazz, Inc. began a partnership with Covenant Presbyterian Church to start a food pantry to provide food and basic day-to-day living supplies to senior musicians and their families, and other community members in need of assistance.
The Elder Statesmen of KC Jazz Ensemble and Friends will headline a free-community concert on May 14 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 5931 Swope Parkway at 6pm to raise awareness and collect canned goods and non-perishable items for the Musicians Pantry.
“The Elder Statesmen will be joined by a fantastic group of musicians who are passionate about sharing their musical talents to give back to our community and help stock the pantry to feed those who need food or basic living supplies” states Pam Johnson, Program Director, Elder Statesmen of Kansas City Jazz, Inc., adding, “This is about neighbor helping neighbor and community members coming together to celebrate and share with one another”.
