Wichita Grand Opera presents William Tell, the only U.S. production of Rossini's last and greatest masterpiece this season. A cruel Austrian governor pushes a Swiss villager too far; igniting open rebellion against the Austrians. While most of the village rallies behind their hero, one young man is forced to choose between his love for an Austrian princess and his duty to his country. WGO’s new production is just the third new American production of Rossini’s final masterpiece in the last 75 years. Already well-known to critics for his “strapping physique and powerful yet seductive voice,” Lucas Meachem makes his WGO debut in the title role following acclaimed performances at Royal Opera Covent Garden, the Met, Vienna, Paris, and Berlin with Anna Netrebko. American sensation Michael Spyres brings his “spine-tingling” voice to the treacherously difficult role of Arnold on the heels of thrilling debuts at La Scala, Covent Garden, Berlin, and Dresden. International opera diva Zvetelina Vassileva, a star of all the foremost opera houses of the world, returns to the WGO as the Austrian princess Matilda, following her breathtaking performances last season as Desdemona in Otello and Countess Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro.
