The current economic climate has hit arts organizations hard. With reduced income, and declining endowments, some organizations have closed their doors, or are struggling to survive. Despite the tough economy, Michael Kaiser says artists and arts organizations should think big and bold.
There are old theaters in Kansas City – some on the National Register of Historic Places – that cannot be toyed with, regardless of any shift in audiences’ tastes or the need for modern conveniences. There are newer spaces, though, where theater directors can assess all the plusses and minuses of a venue, and do something about it. Quality Hill Playhouse is one such space.

 Kemper ARTcast Through an audio collaborative, KCUR and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art will provide listeners with the voices and insights of living artists. Since its opening in 1994, the Kemper Museum has brought more than 100 artists to Kansas City. The collaborative project will present these artists' voices as well as community and curatorial voices to a broad range of listeners.
