Grady County Sheriff Pays for Comp Time
(2008-09-22)
(kccu-fm) - An Oklahoma sheriff who faces gambling-related charges has approved payment of claims for more than 1,000 hours of compensatory time to two deputies who also face charges.

Outgoing Grady County Sheriff Kieran McMullen approved the claims for deputies Delmar Barthelme and Robert Cacy. All three face gambling-related charges in connection with the 2006 raid on the Chickasha Elks Lodge.

The charge to taxpayers totaled almost $12,000 over the past year to cover compensatory time granted to Barthelme and Cacy. Together, they built up 1,033.5 hours of comp time the sheriff said date back to 1997.

An analysis by the Chickasha Express-Star of the department's time sheets showed over the last year Barthelme and Cacy accrued just 36 hours, not the 1,033.25 hours for which they were paid.

The sheriff and deputies did not return calls from the newspaper seeking comment.
