Texas Offers Toll-Free Line for Ike Price Gouging
(2008-09-16)
(kccu-fm) - Texas has a toll-free number for consumers to report complaints about alleged price gouging related to Hurricane Ike.

The Texas attorney general's office says its consumer complaint hot line has received hundreds of calls since Ike made landfall Saturday at Galveston.

The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act bars exorbitant prices for necessities like drinking water, food, batteries and generators during times of disaster.

Attorney General Greg Abbott's office says most complaints so far involve alleged gouging on gas and lodging. Some involve price hikes over food, water and power generators.

The AG's complaint number is 800-252-8011.
