Company Found Guilty of Organized Criminal Acts
Mid-America Services Inc. had entered into a plea agreement in a Collin County court.
In a separate, related case on Thursday, company president Robert Austin Jr. pleaded guilty to giving a gift to a public servant. He was sentenced to two years probation and fined $4,000. That's according to The Dallas Morning News.
Austin had originally been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity for offering money and other benefits to Potter County Sheriff Michael Shumate to keep the company's contract at an Amarillo jail. The case was tried in McKinney on a change of venue.
Shumate was removed from office in June after an Amarillo jury convicted him of engaging in organized criminal activity. He is serving a 180-day jail sentence. Shumate was fined $5,000 and ordered to serve eight years of probation.
