Boone County Treasurer Retires COLUMBIA, MO (KBIA) - The Boone County Treasurer has decided to retire after 33 years of service. KBIA's Celeste Miller talked to Kay Murray and has more.

After 33 years with Boone County, Kay Murray announced that at the end of the month she will no longer be working as the county treasurer.

"I am retiring for personal reasons, family that I want to do more things with, and the fact that I have been in office for 32 years plus, actually about 33 years, and ten years before that, and I am rather burnt out on government and politics."

Because Murray's retirement comes half way through her term, the county commission will appoint an interim treasurer until the governor can appoint somebody. Then anyone interested in the position will run for office in the primaries in August and then the general election in November.

Murray has seen many changes during her time in office from different funding to having the government completely computerized.

Murray says she wants the voters of Boone County to know that she appreciates working for the county citizens and the trust that they have put in her. © Copyright 2010, KBIA
