Snow Storm Advisory
(2010-02-08)
(KBIA) - Mid-Missouri remains under a winter advisory at least through Tuesday morning, and the current storm is expected to drop its heaviest amount of snow Monday. Stevie Mathieu reports.

Crews worked through the day to keep ice off the roads, and it's likely they will have even more work tomorrow. According to the National Weather Service, mid-Missouri and Northern Missouri areas like Kirksville are expected to get 4 to 6 inches of accumulation, and most of that will fall overnight tonight.

Missouri Department of Transportation spokeswoman Elizabeth Duvall says road crews will work through the night to counteract icy driving conditions.

"Since temperatures may drop, we may have some refreeze areas, so we are anticipating having crews out and clearing roadways and monitoring bridges."

Winds also are expected to pick up and create significant snow blowing and drifting. MODOT advises drivers to drive slow, use headlights, increase their following distance, leave with plenty of gas, and keep an emergency kit in the vehicle.
