MU Seeks Student Input for Diversity Study
COLUMBIA, MISSOURI
(KBIA) -
As a part of the Chancellor's Diversity Initiative, the university is conducting a Campus Climate Study.
This study is a follow-up of a similar national study that was conducted by Pennsylvania State researcher Sue Renkin about five years ago. This spurred the creation of the Chancellor's Diversity Initiative at the University of Missouri.
Assistant professor Jenny Hart says this study is meant to gather information about improvements in diversity.
It is a way to consistently over time gauge what the institution is doing. What are we doing right? What do we still need to work on? How do people experience MU from a variety of different perspectives?
Hart also sees the study as a way of showing everyone at MU that diversity is an important issue that the university values and wants to work on.
Hart says MU, like most college campuses, absolutely has work to do in the area of diversity. Diversity usually falls to the wayside in times when budgets are tight, says Hart, so this study is extremely important.
