COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
The city of Moberly is changing its drinking water disinfectant from chlorine to chloramine. Officials say chloramine is safer and also tastes and smells better. Moberly's Director of Public Utilities, Keith Phipps, says when chlorine reacts with other organic compounds, a risky product can develop. Some of these compounds or by-products are Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic Acids. These by-products in rarer cases have been found to cause cancer.
