Columbia School Board to Discuss New Standards for Elementary Math Curriculum
"We would like to see no vote taken on Thursday. We would like to see maybe the proposal's going out for independent evaluation by mathematicians. Right now, it has not been independently evaluated by mathematicians."
Segret says the proposed Columbia math standards are based on Missouri's state curriculum. She says although the standards are far from perfect, they would be a first step towards improving Columbia's math curriculum.

COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
The Columbia School Board is scheduled to discuss a proposal Thursday that outlines the new grade level standards for elementary math curriculum. Board Member Ines Segert says the new objectives provide specific guidelines on what students should be learning in each grade. She says these objectives are very different from the current curriculum. Segert says although the proposal will be on the agenda at Thursday's meeting, the Board will need more time to evaluate it before making a decision."We would like to see no vote taken on Thursday.
