Columbia Parks Damaged by Weekend Storms
(2008-09-17)
(KBIA) - Some Columbia citizens might have to find another way to spend time outdoors at the beginning of fall.Columbia Parks' Services Manager Mike Griggs says the park staff is still repairing some Columbia trails from Hurricane Ike related storms. He says minor repairs include mud removal, while major repairs include removing large rocks that are obstructing paths. Griggs says park staff is focusing on existing damages and officials are bringing in outside help to hasten the process.

"What we're gonna do now though is bring in crews from all other disciplines - like our foresters, our landscapers, some of the park maintenance guys - like electricians. You know, those type of people, just to help out just to help out with trying to get all the trails up in usable condition.

Griggs says Parks Services will not completely close down trails because they are valuable to users. He says the majority of repairs are focused on the M.K.T. Trail because it is traveled daily. Griggs says walkers and hikers might have to exert extra effort to pass some obstructions. © Copyright 2009, KBIA
