Grant Aids to Prevent Internet Crimes
(2008-09-16)
(KBIA) - The Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force recently received a five thousand dollar grant from Boone Electric Community Trust. The grant will aid in investigations related to Internet crimes against children. Community presentations about Internet safety will also be funded by the grant. Detective Andy Anderson, coordinator of the task force, says Internet crimes are booming . He says it's important for parents to closely monitor their children's Internet usage.

But number one, the main thing that parents have to do, be it the Internet or their cell phones, is they have to monitor the activity the kids are doing. If it's the Internet they have to keep the computer in a common area in the house. They've got to have specific rules.

The task force conducts both reactive and undercover investigations related to Internet crimes against children. Anderson and his task force have made arrests across Missouri and other states with the help of department funding and grants.
