Counterfeit Bills Found in Boonville
(2008-09-16)
(KBIA) - Two gas stations in Boonville turned in 20-dollar counterfeit bills to Lieutenant Bob Welliver of the Boonville Police Department Sunday night. Lieutenant Welliver says this is not a new problem to the area.

This is an ongoing problem everywhere in Missouri, and that these counterfeit pens work really well to identify. And if a bill just feels funny, out of wack, different, they need to be aware because they'll pass any denomination of bills.

Lieutenant Welliver says, one of the gas stations used a special pen designed to determine whether or not a bill is real and called the authorities immediately. He says in this particular instance, the two suspects were using their counterfeit 20-dollar bills to buy very cheap items in order to get the cash back

The suspects are still at large, but the Boonville Police Department is working with neighboring departments to find them.
