Mixed Messages on Lake of the Ozarks Cleanliness COLUMBIA, MO (KBIA) - With all the bad publicity about raw sewage being pumped into the Lake of the Ozarks, residents are trying to get the truth out. According to the Lake spokesperson, Steve Kaplar, some of the media coverage has been misleading.

I think people who visit the Lake can tell that it is an attractive area and the Department of Conservation has assured us that the fishery the Lake is healthy there is a lot of good fishing and good fishing only exists where the water is safe and clean.

Last September the Missouri Department of Natural Resources noticed 10,000 to 15,000 gallon of raw sewage going into the Lake. Since then the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Conservation, AmernUE, and the Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance have been working to clean up the Lake. The last round of tests showed the water's level of contamination was safe
