Glasgow Bridge Being Demolished
(2008-09-10)
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
A bridge on a major route along the Missouri River at Glasgow is being demolished this week. A ferry service will take traffic over the river within 45-minute to one hour after the blast occurs. Each ferry trip costs between six and eight dollars. Those who need to cross the river on a regular basis will have to use it for more than a year. Marshall Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ken Yowell says those work in Marshall or who live on the other side of the river are greatly affected by the bridge project. "The effect here is just people over in Glasgow, Sosbrano, who work in Marshall, just have to find a different way around. They definitely are affected, because that's eight dollars one way to ride the ferry across, and that eight dollars is a couple gallons of gas."
The new bridge is expected to open to traffic in August, 2009 and be fully completed by the end of December.
