Hallsville Gets Football Team
(2008-09-09)
(KBIA) - Few things draw small American communities together like the tradition of a Friday night football game. But in Hallsville, there's never been a varsity football team for the town to rally around... until this weekend.

Cheerleaders, a marching band, and hundreds of excited fans gathered in the northern Boone County town of Hallsville Friday to watch as the high school hosted its first ever home varsity football game against Mark Twain High School. Head Coach John Morris says on game night, the team knew it had the support of the entire community.

Getting football to Hallsville has been a long and tough process after a bond issue for public funding failed, private sources helped build a stadium and a scoreboard. A junior varsity team was established two years ago and last week the varsity team played it first game. It was defeated then, but turned things around Friday and Hallsville came out on top of Mark Twain with a victory of 19-8.
