Columbia Debates Police Taser-Use
(2008-09-05)
(KBIA) -

Muleskinners programming vice President, Sean Spence, says a taser related death in Moberly and an injury on I-70 has raised awareness and heightened interest in the issue.

Attendees at today's meeting said taser regulations aren't clear or strict enough and say they're concerned about a lack of taser-education. Spence says columbia Police on the other hand argue that tasers are necessary to keep residents safe.

The general argument on the police's side is that the officers need this equipment to both protect the officers and protect the citizens and to deal with crime in the most effective way in certain situations.

Spence says the meeting didn't seem to change anyone's mind, but it did help people become more educated. © Copyright 2009, KBIA
