Kirksville Residents Surveyed on Downtown Improvements
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
Kirksville residents may not want to hang up the phone if they receive a call from someone asking about the downtown area. KBIA's Maureen McCollum has more on a survey to help improve downtown.
PGAV is an urban consulting firm gathering information for the state's Dream Initiative. That's a state program encouraging the redevelopment of downtowns throughout Missouri. Kirksville is one of ten communities selected last year to participate. Kirksville City Manager Mari Macomber says the firm is conducting random phone surveys.
Basically conduct a survey to find out what they think about the downtown, ideas they might have to improve it, and to kind of assess where the community is, the pulse of the community, if you will.
Macomber says the feedback is important to improve the town's overall appearance. Kirksville officials are already talking about making changes to store fronts and have begun improving streets, lighting, and more. She says she wants to see a successful downtown.
Keeping it active, keeping it viable so it remains a focal point of the community that I think is important. So I guess that's what I'd like, is to just maintain the heritage, if you will, that the downtown brings to the community.
PGAV is calling residents on their landlines. Macomber says anyone who isn't contacted can e-mail her with input and ideas.
