Some Historical Maps of Missouri Cities Now Archived Online
(2007-11-14)
(KBIA) - Historical maps of Missouri cities are now available online. Staff with the University of Missouri Library Systems has digitized historical maps from the years 1883 to 1922.

These maps include detailed information like the location of fire hydrants and water mains. The buildings are also color coded to show what type of material was used in the construction of that structure.

Kurt Kopp directs the Library Systems Office. Kopp says the maps are of particular interest to genealogists and historians, and that there's a virtual timeline in the overlay of the maps.

"You can see how the city grew, and the expansion of buildings and the change in buildings."

Previously, the maps were only available through MU Libraries and the Library of Congress. They're now accessible at the University of Missouri Library Systems' Digital Library.
