Bike Boulevard Put On Hold
"If they eliminate the left turn, going each way, then that's where the island would take up that middle turn lane."
Hoppe and others say it's worth doing a pilot project on Windsor, but they say the safety issues need to be ironed out. The bike boulevard is financed through Get About Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
Safety concerns are putting Columbia's first bike boulevard on hold. The idea behind making Windsor Avenue and part of Ash Street a bike boulevard is to encourage more bike traffic. The establishment would still allow two-way car traffic. At last night's city council meeting, residents and council members said they're concerned about an increase in bicyclists crossing College Avenue. The city council approved Barbara Hoppe's motion to table the plans until more safety analysis is completed. Of particular concern is a hill just south of Windsor, that some say can be dangerous. There are talks of eliminating left turns in and out of Windsor, and Hoppe says a safety island could be constructed on College to help bikers cross."If they eliminate the left turn, going each way, then that's where the island would take up that middle turn lane."
