Special Legislative Committee Appointed to Improve Energy
"Through a lot of these energy issues that came up, it was apparent to me and, I think, several other legislators, that we had a misunderstanding in the general assembly about where Missouri is, at this point in history, in energy needs."
Schaefer says the committee will take expert testimony and hear from many sides to get the best advice possible, to help draft legislation on how to keep Missouri sustainable and affordable. The other Republicans appointed to the committee are Brad Lager and Rob Mayer. The Democratic appointees are Tim Green and Jolie Justus.

COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
A special committee on state energy policy has been established. So far, it includes five state senators, including Columbia's Kurt Schaefer, and will soon include five house members. The committee will hold hearings and submit a report to the general assembly by December on suggested legislative changes to keep Missouri in a position of having affordable and reliable power for the next 25 years. Schaefer says he helped carry this committee in the Senate. It comes after a session with heated debates over energy issues, such as a second nuclear reactor in Callaway County and clean-coal initiatives."Through a lot of these energy issues that came up, it was apparent to me and, I think, several other legislators, that we had a misunderstanding in the general assembly about where Missouri is, at this point in history, in energy needs."
