Children's Hospitals to Be Consolidated
Plans to consolidate Children's Hospital services under one roof were revealed this morning. The current Children's Hospital that exists on the sixth and seventh floors of University Hospital will be consolidated and moved to the Columbia Regional Hospital.
The new facility will include private patient rooms, a cancer and blood disorder unit, a short stay unit, a cardiology clinic and a pediatric intensive care unit. The addition to the hospital will also be more kid friendly.
Executive Director of Advancement for University of Missouri Health Laura Gajda says they plan to take all of the in-patient areas and move them over to the new facility as well as the pediatric clinics.
"This facility will be all private patient rooms for the pediatric and adolescent patients which is a huge improvement over what we have now at University Hospital that was built in 1956 and there are semi-private rooms. And that will be an enormous satisfying factor for the families and the children."
The new facility has a budget of $12 million, for its first phase, and is holding active fundraisers for further installations.
