A new Children's health care facility is in the works for Columbia. On Thursday morning, details about the plan to consolidate all Children's Hospital services under one roof at the Columbia Regional Hospital will be revealed. Renovations and additions include private rooms equipped with sleeper sofas for visitors, three separate playrooms, and the consolidation of all childcare facilities in to one building.The aim of the effort is to bring a convenient, child friendly hospital to Columbia and under one roof. The executive director of advancement at University of Missouri Health Care is Laura Gajda (GUY-duh). She says she feels keeping children distracted and happy during their hospital stay is very important.
"Frankly you know as a mother of a child I just feel that children are in a better healing environment if it's decorated and staffed with people that are dedicated to their needs."
Planners say the new facility has a budget of 12 million dollars for its first phase and are holding active fundraisers for further installations. The presentation will be at 7:15 Thursday morning in Columbia Regional Hospital's Conference Center and is open to the public.
