Columbia Appoints Police Review Board Members
(2009-11-03)
(KBIA) - Eight of nine members for Columbia's newly created Citizens Police Review Board were appointed at Monday's Columbia City Council meeting.

The Board is a creation of the Columbia Police Department Citizen Oversight Committee.

Ellen LoCurto-Martinez, who served on the Oversight Committee, was appointed to serve on the Review Board. She says the Review Board will take some organization before beginning formal duties

"There's a lot of training that will happen at first," LoCurto-Martinez says. "We'll probably become really active and involved in accepting any issues and complaints in the early part of 2010."

The Citizens Police Review Board will respond to citizen complaints against the Columbia Police Department and will then determine a course of action. The Board will also serve as a liaison between the community and the Police Department.
