Sid Sullivan Announces Run for Mayor
Sid Sullivan says he wants to see more growth in Columbia's future. Sullivan announced his intention Wednesday to run in the 2010 campaign for mayor. He says he thinks his background qualifies him for the job.
"I come from a planning family that's been involved with city and regional planning so it's been an issue I've discussed my lifetime."
Sullivan says he is concerned with both physical and economic development in Columbia. He says public safety is one of the areas he would like to see expand. Sullivan says although he just started collecting signatures early this week, he feels he's gotten a positive response from local residents. Jerry Wade was the first person to announce his intention to run for mayor. And Eastside Tavern owner Sal Nuccio announced his candidacy a couple weeks ago. Nuccio couldn't be reached for comment. Wade meanwhile says this mayor's race will determine the future of Columbia.
"I think a mayor's race especially when we've had a long tenure of one mayor and now we have an open seat is very, very important because it begins to define where this community wants to take itself into the future."
Wade says he is not discussing the particulars of his campaign at this time. Wade says instead he is listening to the concerns of the public.
