Columbia Water and Electric Rates Increased
(2009-09-22)
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
The Columbia City Council has approved the city's 2010 budget and it includes increased rates for water and electric. Columbia Water and Light spokesperson Connie Kacprowicz says the increased rates will begin October 1st. On the electric side, they (Columbia citizens) will see about a five percent increase, which is equivalent to about $4.86 a month,
Kacprowicz says.
On the residential water side, we are going to see an eight percent increase, which is about $1.75.
However, some homeowners may get relief on their utilities bill when paying for natural gas. A spokesperson for Ameren says current predictions show natural gas rates are down.
The price of crude oil has dropped considerably since last year, which could lead to lower rates if the market price doesn't go back up.
New rates for natural gas will be announced in mid-October.
