Holocaust Remembrance Day Observed on MU Campus
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
Jews around the world do not want anyone to forget. Yesterday was Holocaust Remembrance Day which marked the sixty-first anniversary of the six million lives lost. KBIA's Rachel Duitch has more.
These are just a few of the six million lives lost in the Holocaust. Volunteers from the Jewish Student Organization gathered yesterday in MU's Speaker's Circle to read the names of some of those who lost their lives in concentration camps. The holiday coincidentally marks the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, as well as Hitler's birthday. Kevin Young is a student at MU who came to listen to the names and help memorialize the lives that were lost.
"I think it's important to remember the awful things that happened and to stop by here and give a couple of minutes of my own time while I'm walking to class, and pay my respects in a little way."
The Jewish Student Organization is bringing in a Holocaust survivor from St. Louis tomorrow night at six-thirty to speak about her experiences in the concentration camps.
