Addition of Substations for Columbia Police
(2010-03-08)
(KBIA) - Columbia's Police Chief Ken Burton says he would like to make the police more accessible to the growing city. He wants to add police substations to the north and south parts of town. On KBIA's talk show Intersection, Burton said today it takes too long for police officers to get from the central station to different areas of Columbia.

"If an officer is doing a report for instance at our police station and he works in the far south side of the city and a dispatcher calls him and says I need you to take this call there are in some cases a twenty minute drive, and so we can alleviate some of that by putting the officers these officers would report to work at these precinct stations."

Burton says he is looking into getting the substations in place, and the first step is to have a needs assessment done by an outside force.
