Camdenton Water and Sewage Rate Increase Proposed
(2010-02-24)
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
Camdenton residents may start seeing more of their money flow toward water and sewage bills. The city council proposed an ordinance on February sixteenth which aims to increase the water and sewage rates by about six dollars per month. A review showed the city has lost more than 38-thousand dollars in water and sewer revenue during the past six years. `The revenue gap is forcing the city to consider raising its rates to pay off rising maintenance costs. City Administrator Brenda Colter says a rate hike is necessary in order to provide the city with better systems."A lot of that is pumping power for our water wells and for our sewer treatment plants and our list stations so that's quite an expense. Plus we've got an aging system that we have to repair so we have to keep up with the rates in order to be able to keep up with our systems."
These reviews are conducted every two years and Colter says there hasn't been a rate increase for the past six years. If passed, the higher rates will go into effect May first. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
