14 time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps and a number of other swimmers are pulling out of the Missouri Grand Prix. The annual swim meet is scheduled to being tomorrow at the University of Missouri's recreation center. Phelps set a record at the 2008 event. He was scheduled to participate this year, but inclement weather on the east coast is preventing him from making the trip. Phelps is a member of the North Baltimore Swim Team - his teammates Elizabeth Pelton and Felicia Lee also will not be attending. A spokesperson for the Mizzou rec center says weather is also preventing teams from New Jersey and Canada from competing.
The Grand Prix is scheduled to begin in the morning and run through Monday. Mizzou is scheduled to host the event through 2012. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
