"Today we join with representatives from the Missouri Hospital Association and the American Heart Association to launch this exciting new program to get Missourians back in shape."
Those who sign up for the challenge on the Web site commit to exercise and eat a balanced diet. After twelve weeks, those people can potentially receive a gold, silver or bronze medal based on how well they completed their goals. Dr. Jerry Kennett is the vice president and chief medical officer of Boone Hospital Center. He announced the program alongside Kinder and says a healthier lifestyle will also lead to a more enjoyable life.
"Eating a proper diet, watching your weight, exercising on a regular basis and not smoking can prolong your life and make your life more enjoyable. The bottom line is your heart is in your hands."
Kinder says Missourians can follow his lead. He says he's busy, but he tries to keep his body in good shape by using the elliptical at a fitness center in Cape Girardeau.
"I try to do thirty minutes or more and get my heart rate up to about 145. And for a 55-year-old guy that's not too bad."
Kinder says his office is going track those who accept the challenge and find out the results after twelve weeks.
