MU Works To Increase Diversity
(2009-06-25)
(KBIA) - The MU office of admissions says it has been focusing more recruitment efforts outside Missouri, sending representatives to high schools in major cities such as Dallas and Chicago. Senior Associate Director of Admissions Chuck May says the university has worked the past four years on attracting students who may not have previously considered MU. These efforts have not only resulted in attracting a larger class of students, but also one that is more culturally diverse.

"We've enrolled continually a record class of African-Americans on campus, a record class of Hispanics and Native Americans, in addition to just diversity as far as geographic diversity."

The United Ambassadors lead much of the recruitment efforts on campus. The United Ambassadors are ethnically diverse students who work to promote the university to minority high school students across the nation. The goal of the program is to promote student learning by increasing diversity.
